Pears
Pears are a great source of fibre and they contain a good array of mineral and vitamins including potassium that helps to manage the body’s balance of fluids, as well as Vitamin K, calcium and phosphorus. The main varieties that are grown and exported in Australia are: Beurré Bosc, Corella Forelle, Josephine de Malines, Packhams, Red Anjou, Red Sensation, and Williams’ Bon Chretein and Winter Nelis. Packhams and Williams are the most popular amongst the Australian varieties.
The majority of production is in Victoria which produces 89% of total production, followed by South Australia at 5%, Tasmania at 4% and New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland produce about 1% each.
